Important note: when deciding where to place your wall stickers/ decals we recommend placing them away from baby's cot or when they can be reached by baby. If your child is able to remove the wall sticker from the wall they potentially can be a choking hazard. Also removal requires slowly and carefully removing the stickers so as not to damage the walls - children rarely remove with care! So avoid the risk of choking and damage to your walls by placing stickers out of reach.

1. Will decals damage my walls?
All ranges offered by Snug as a Bug are removable and should not damage your walls, however we cannot guarantee that there will be no damage on removal. All our wall stickers have been tested thoroughly and under normal conditions will not cause damage. The following should ensure your walls are correctly prepared:
Freshly Painted Walls: If you have freshly painted walls do not apply any decals until the paint has had significant time to cure – we would recommend 4-6 weeks - the paint may feel dry but will give off gasses as it cures properly and these gasses can destroy the adhesive and cause the wall stickers/decal not to stick or may damage the walls when removed.
Undercoated & Correctly Painted: We do not recommend the use of wall stickers/decals if an undercoat has not been used prior to the application of paint. Also walls should have been painted according to manufacturers instructions with two full (non watered down) coats of paint.
If wall stickers/decals are applied to walls without an undercoat or not correctly painted the risk of damage is higher as the paint will not have bonded properly to the wall and therefore on removal damage can occur.
Flat, Smooth & Clean Surface: Wall Decals require a flat surface and are not recommended for textured surfaces or wallpaper.
2. Can I use decals on wallpaper?
Decals require a clean, dry and smooth surface and will not adhere to textured surface, so are not recommended for textured wallpapers, stucco, concrete etc. If the wallpaper is smooth some wall stickers may work but may damage the wallpaper on removal.
BoscoBear walls stickers CAN be used on wallpaper and but the surface must be smooth and non textured. All wall stickers and decals require non porous surfaces ie concrete, brick and stucco are not be suitable.
3. How do I apply wall stickers and decals?
This depends a lot on the product brand as some are simple peel and stick (ie RoomMates, Little Chipipi, Cocoon Courture, Fowalls, Blik Restick) and some are transfer (Blik, Wall Decor, Words as Art). All products come with installation instructions however some basics are:
- clean walls are essential, but chemical cleaners may destroy the adhesive so take care with cleaning products and ensure the wall surface is completely clean, dry and dust free.
- avoid getting fingerprints on the adhesive as this may reduce the adhesive hold.
- with all decals and wall stickers ensure care is taken to stick them firmly onto the wall surface. If stickers are not completely adhered to the wall surface they may peel off and dust may interfere with the adhesive. Simply rub firmly with a cloth all over to ensure all of the sticker has good contact.
Place away from heat pumps, heaters, hairdryers and ventilation system outlets which can cause the adhesive to soften and start to peel. Heat, moisture and similar atmosphere conditions can significantly reduce the life span of your decals.
4. Why won't my wall decals stick?
There can be many reasons why wall decals won’t stay put and we are unable to guarantee that the wall stickers/decals you purchase will adhere to your walls. Here are some of the known causes for wall stickers not sticking:
Reusing - if the stickers you have purchased are not reusable then they may not stick when you shift them. With reusable stickers, dust, dirt and overhandling may reduce there ability to re-stick. If you wish to reuse reusable stickers, care must be taken to remove without tearing and without reducing the adhesive.
Wall preparation – the wall has not been properly cleaned or dry before applying the decal.
Wall surface – our decals will not adhere to cloth, stucco, brick, concrete, cement render or similar uneven surfaces including some wall papers. These surfaces are not completely smooth and unfortunately this does not allow for sufficient smooth surface area for the decal to adhere to.
Overhandling – preparation, preparation, preparation that is the key when applying your new decal – each time you remove it from the wall or handle the adhesive, you could be reducing the affectiveness of the adhesive.
Newly painted - you need to allow for 3 weeks after painting before putting your decal up.
Paint choice – Wash & Wear, Teflon and Silicone paints are designed for easy cleaning and to repel anything from sticking to them (like sticky little fingers). Unfortunately this means that some of them will also reject wall decals.
However we have found that with a little bit more persistence, this problem can in most cases be over come. Simply apply more pressure more often to the decal once you have applied it to the wall. Rub over the decal each day for the first week or so. We cannot guarantee this will work for all paint types as we have no control over site conditions and paint quality.
Room Temperature – if your room suffers from extreme temperature changes – particularly heat, this can sometimes cause the adhesive to become soft and cause lifting.
Despite following all the instructions correctly, occasionally some walls reject the wall stickers and they don’t stay adhered. This can be due to many factors; exposure to moisture, fluctuating temperatures, or the level of pigment and teflon in the wall paint used.
The good news is there is much you can do to ensure your wall stickers work such as ensuring that your walls are suitable for the type and brand of wall sticker you want to use; ensuring your paint has cured (check with your paint manufacturer but we would recommend waiting 4-6 weeks); clean and dry walls to ensure a smooth, clean surface. Also take care not to overhandle the wall stickers, do not reuse non reusable wall stickers, place away from heat and do not use in a room with fluctuating temperature or a room with lots of moisture and talk to us if you need advice!
5. Are the wall decals/stikarounds reusable?
Some ranges are reusable, for example RoomMates, Blik Restik and Wall Graphics. Other ranges can be removed but not reused, for example Blik Original, Wall Décor. Please check the brand information provided prior to purchasing to ensure you will be happy with the product received. Also even reusable wall stickers can lose their stick if not treated with care - fingerprints, dust etc will all comprise the long term stickability of wall stickers.
6. I am renting – are the stickers okay to use?
Stikarounds and Wall Decals are fantastic for renters or commitment phobics, however we recommend testing in an inconspicuous area first and feel free to ask us for advice.
7. Can I get a sample of the product type I am interested in?
Wall Decor packs come with a sample to trial before applying the decals to your walls - if you have any problems with the sample not sticking to your wall surface simply send the unopened and unused pack back for a refund. The new Bosco Bear packs contain a test sticker for this purpose. If you are ordering a brand that does not contain a test sticker use the surrounding white material to test first. If you think your paint contains silicon or teflon (or you don't know anything about the paint) test with the surrounding white material for a month prior to putting up the wall stickers to ensure that they will adhere. Please not however that sometimes the paint will effectively reject some stickers but not others so testing will not ensure compatibility.
8. Can I use these in the bathroom, outside or on windows?
It depends on the product so if product is not being used in the typical kids bedroom/lounge situation please just ask us so we can ensure they will be appropriate for your situation. Also see the Brand Information Page as this may answer your questions on the product. The most important elements to weigh up are:
a) is the surface flat?
b) is the surface expanding and contracting due to environment or surface?
c) is the area intended for the decals/stickers even temperate? High levels of humidity or extreme hot or cold can affect the wall stickers adhesive?
d) is the surface clean and dry?
e) is the paint completely cured ?
9. How do I remove the wall stickers/decals
It is extremely important to follow all instructions provided for applying the wall decals and removing the wall decals.
Assuming your wall surface is prepared and painted correctly and you have allowed the paint to completely cure you should have no damage on removal. The most important aspect to removing the decals is to remove slowly and gently - if they are ripped off the walls damage can occur. Please also consider this when deciding where to place them as little fingers can work on them to lift them and may also pull them off and cause damage.
Due to variations in wall surfaces and environmental extremes (like direct light or heat) we cannot be responsible for any damage caused to your wall.
10. Brand information
Please view the specific brand information on the product you are purchasing for more specific suitability information, all the wall stickers are different and just because one type of wall sticker has worked on your wall it doesn't guarantee another will, it is very important to check for the specific manufacturers information to ensure suitability:
Please note some brands are more sensitive to paint types or wall surface than others. If you are not sure of suitability please contact us. For example Forwalls is one of our top selling products and works extremely well (see our Gallery page for loads of customer photos of this brand) but they are more sensitive than some other brands to wash and wear paints or paints containing teflon, silicon or additions with similar "no stick" properties. Do not assume because other decals have worked that any wall stickers are suitable, they can have very different properties between brands.
11. Recommendations:
We recommend all our decals but this recommendation list is to help you decide which feature is important to you and therefore the correct brand for your circumstances.
Reusable: If the product being reusable is important to you then the RoomMates brand has our highest recommendation - we have used these extensively and have found them to be removed and reused over an over again without any loss of "stick" and without damaging the wall surface. Little Chipipi is a high quality, reusable wall sticker brand that we recommend. It is important with any wall stickers that care is taken not to compromise the adhesive during removal.
Matt Finish: If you want a less "sticker" look and a more seamless design that looks part of the wall then we would highly recommend Blik, Forwalls and Wall Decor.
You are renting, don't know your paint type or know you have a wash 'n wear paint: RoomMates, Little Chipipi and Wall Graphics. These are less likely to experience rejection by paints - we can't guarantee it but these brands are less likely to reject and the adhesive is just tacky (not as strong as Blik or Wall Decor decals) so less likely to cause damage on removal.
Removable: All our wall stickers are removable and all have been tested to ensure they remove without damaging the wall surface however, some wall stickers have a gentler adhesive and therefore are less likely to damage on removal - our recommendations are RoomMates, Wall Graphics, Little Chipipi, The Wall Sticker Company and Forwalls.
Wall stickers with a gentler adhesive will remove easier and may be kinder to paint surfaces however they are also more sensitive to paint types - so knowing your paint surface is important. Testing is also essential.
12. Can’t see your question here?
Simply send us your questions and we will be more than happy to help. While we cannot guarantee that the wall stickers/decals you purchase will work on your wall surface, we know that extensive testing has shown that with correct application they work very successfully. Please do not assume suitability based on a different brand of wall sticker as all decals/stickers have very different adhesive qualities and one may work well on your wall surface and another may not - this is not an indication of quality but just the different adhesive qualities making some products more suitable for certain wall surfaces than others.
Hints:
When putting the decals up it may be worth considering keeping them out of reach of little fingers as they love to pick!
Giant decals are, simply due to size, more difficult to handle and apply - always have two people on hand to apply larger decals. Care will need to be taken not to stretch the decals on removal from the backing sheet and when removing creases and air bubbles.
If you experience any problems with the wall stickers you have purchased please tell us as soon as you can - we maybe able to help or our supplier maybe able to. If you find a fault or have any problems with your decals DO NOT put them up, especially if they are not working as per the instructions! Contact us first, we maybe able to help you with the application or get the product tested if necessary. If you apply the wall decals even when you believe they are faulty you make it impossible for us to help or test the product - let us help! We can't guarantee the wall stickers will work on every wall surface but we will always do our best to help if we can.
